PLANET GUMBO GROCERY BAG PROJECT
I have been wanting to involve the Planeteers
and folks who have volunteered in a project where we are all
working together. So here's my latest philanthropic
brainstorm.
I have made a menu which includes
a shopping list and recipes for all the food on the list.
Things I have found to be reliable sources of healthy
foods. Things which are easy to prepare. You know,
touring in a road band is practically a homeless existence.
Now, anyone can give the gift of sustenance
and know that you're not only satisfying hunger, but also
providing health.
At the bottom of this e-mail are two
menus - one for a person with no kitchen, and one for a family.
The groceries cost fifty dollars for both bags. Altogether
over twenty meals plus snacks. If you would like to
participate, you can take my little
list down to the grocery store and make up a couple bags and
give them to somebody who needs it. And always mention
that you are from Planet Gumbo. If you cannot figure out who
is hungry in your town, go to: http://www.worldhungeryear.org/nhc_data/nhc_01.asp,
select "Food Distribution" for the Service, and find a food
pantry or homeless shelter in your area..
Sometimes of the year a lot of folks
are cold. Some wholesome good eats will help them against
the weather.
When you give the bags away, please
let us know how many you gave and what city you live in, so
we can keep track of them.
Thanks,
Bill Wharton
HERE'S HOW TO DO IT
1. Copy and paste the recipes to a Word document and print out the recipes
2. Go shopping
3. Put the recipes in the bag with
the groceries
4. Give the bag to someone who needs
it (make sure the recipient receives everything on the list)
- go to http://www.worldhungeryear.org/nhc_data/nhc_01.asp
if you need help.
5. Tell them you have come from Planet
Gumbo
6. Go to our website
and push the TALK link to tell us what you have done.
7. Feel good!
